U.S.A. ThisWeek is a national weekly news magazine, the print version will soon to be launched that will provide national weekly news-media representation for African Americans and fill a long standing news-media void. It’s our position that, until African Americans have a national voice that presents a perspective representing our interests and concerns on a weekly basis, we are relegated to less than full participation in the society. With the establishment of U.S.A ThisWeek, no longer will the area of news be dominated by the mainstream news media nor will the proliferation of traditional pundits, politicians and news readers have a monopoly on the opinions and perspectives being posited to the public.
In addition, with the new threat to our existence of international terrorism which places us all at risk, we can no longer remain quiescent and allow information that would address that threat to go unreported. Right now we’re in a Russian roulette posture based on the assessment of the current administration that “they only have to be right once; we have to be right all the time.”
It’s folly to rely on military measures to protect and defend every possible area of vulnerability while continuing to engage in the same policies that have created a situation in which, to quote from a reportedly internal Pentagon memo of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, “radicals who hate America are being turned out faster than we can arrest or kill them.”
People cannot make informed decisions if they are denied information. An uninformed people are easy to manipulate to their own destruction. U.S.A. ThisWeek will bring information and a perspective to the public forum that can provide insights that, if explored, can reduce the terrorist threat that now seems so hopeless. The one-size-fits-all terrorist grouping, assigning all the "bad guys” the same motives -- of opposing democracy, being against freedom and desirous of a world dominated by Islam -- is ridiculous. It makes any possibility of winning hearts and minds futile. How do you win hearts and minds if you don’t know, or continue to misread, what’s in their hearts and what’s on their minds?
The commentary and articles posted on our website will demonstrate our ability to present a fresh, more enlightened perspective that will bring new insights forward. The mainstream news media’s early lock step position on the war and its current perspective on the middle–east, a part of the world with which we are inextricably connected, make it critical that a national weekly news magazine offer unbiased information that allows for informed analysis. It is not in our security interest to ignore realities in order to accommodate the bias or interests of other nations. It comes down to U.S.A.Thisweek having one dictum: “The truth will set you free.” Be advised, the truth is on the way.
